Year After Year, What Makes ALTA One So Great?

The D. Bello team recently made the trip to Ski Country USA for the annual ALTA ONE conference with over 1,000 industry leaders and professionals. We may not have hit the slopes, but ALTA continues to find ways to make it better every year. With this year's theme of “Mission: Protect,” we’re reminded that sometimes the best way to protect something is with a good offense. Discover more below on what made ALTA One so great!

The D. Bello team recently made the trip to Ski Country USA for the annual ALTA ONE conference with over 1,000 industry leaders and professionals.

And while we didn’t have the chance to hit the slopes, we did have a fantastic time at the historical Broadmoor in Colorado Springs.

We’re obviously biased, but there’s really no conference like a title conference. Especially when talking about “the big one”, aka ALTA ONE.

You’d think doing it year after year might cause it to lose the excitement, buzz and ROI. However, ALTA continues to find ways to make it better every year. So much so that our Administrative Services Director Jade Zaharoff cut vacation short to get there in time from Virginia. COO Andrew Acker left a two week old newborn at home to make it for a couple nights (kudos to his wife Sarah). CEO Jeffrey Bates had to be there for time on stage as the TIPAC Vice Chair helping to present the annual TIPAC Awards.

It’s hard to put into words, but when reflecting on the conference and this year's theme of “Mission: Protect,” we’re reminded that sometimes the best way to protect something is with a good offense.

There’s no hiding from the challenges and changes in the title insurance industry, but that’s also why this is the most important time to be involved, to invest in the future and to help find opportunities for our industry to understand the invaluable strategy of outsourcing. There was no shortage for all of the above this year at ALTA ONE.

It started with all the good vibes at the ALTA Good Deeds Foundation event, which we co-sponsored with Westcor. Attendees enjoyed a spirited round of bowling, shuffleboard and foosball. Most importantly, we collectively raised $28,000 for the foundation and its support of nonprofits all across the country.

It also wouldn’t be an ALTA ONE without a co-hosted booth with our partner Bowe Digital. One cannot compete with the amount of cool swag they will arrive with, but there was plenty of fun with our spin the wheel contest. Who doesn’t love instant wins of Starbucks gift cards, custom Yeti Mugs, JBL Speakers and the ultimate grand prize, a Series 9 Apple Watch (congrats Ryan Galer of Ubiquity Title Solutions in Omaha, NE)!

As the year's conference cycle winds down, we look back and realize we’ve spent the better part of the last year talking about many of the challenges and opportunities our industry faces in the current market. There’s no hiding from reality, but with the right approach, and the right offense, we believe the best opportunities are still ahead.

As the opening keynote Peter Sheahan shared, it’s easy to be stalled in the fear of a down market and uncertainty of change, but if we don’t accept the need to change and adapt then there’s a chance we miss the turn that’s on the horizon.

As longtime American Land Title Association members, it’s always a pleasure to be a part of this event, and we’re already making plans for next year. We hope to see you in Orlando in 2024!
